2011! A Signature Year at Sandman Hotel Group

Happy New Year to all of you reading this! What a year it’s going to be! From new opens and opening receptions, to a brand new website and mobile app, us folks here at Sandman Hotel Group are extremely excited to get a jump-start on things for 2011!

By the Spring of 2011, Sandman will be pushing open the doors of its first international property, in Newcastle, UK. The Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle is located in the heart of the city centre – the former site of the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery head office!

Purchased in 2009, it has been undergoing renovations ever since. Features include boutique-style rooms with large windows, gas fireplaces, and high ceilings. Once fully transformed, the site will feature 175 rooms, and a Shark Club Sports Bar & Grill.  In addition to these fabulous amenities, St. James Park, home of the Newcastle United FC, is directly across the street. Do you know who ‘The Magpies’ are? Or what it means to go Black and White mad? Spend an afternoon at the Shark Club next summer, and you’ll find out! (Hint: you may leave in a Newcastle United jersey!)

In British Columbia, the finishing touches are going into the sixth Sandman Signature Hotel property to open since 2007! Located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, the city of Langley will now be home to two Sandman properties, both within sight of the other, at the 200th Street interchange. And with a new hotel, must come new restaurants! The Sandman Signature Hotel Langley will host a Moxie’s Classic Bar and Grill, as well as a brand new Chop Steakhouse & Bar.

Head north to Kamloops, B.C., and you’ll see construction is well underway on yet another Sandman Signature Hotel, set to open in late 2011, or early 2012. Located on the site of a former popular night spot, The Max Nightclub, we’ve got plans to build a 6-storey, 200-room hotel. This property will anchor the re-development of the downtown core, and serve as the flagship hotel in the city!

Lucky for us, it’s not all work and no play – we’ve got grand openings to celebrate! In Alberta, we’ve got our Sandman Hotel & Suites Calgary South and Sandman Signature Hotel Edmonton South to introduce to everyone! In B.C., we’re planning to show off our Sandman Hotel & Suites Abbotsford and Sandman Signature Hotel Prince George… Keep posted for details!

On the cyber scene, we are really excited to introduce a brand new website this Spring! Work is underway to update our online presence, beginning with the first place people visit – http://www.sandmanhotels.com/! In addition to the new site, we will also be unveiling an app for all those smart phones out there… by this time next year, you’ll be booking rooms from the convenience of your phone!

Here’s hoping your 2011 is off to a flying start! We look forward to seeing you throughout the year!
