Sandman Regina Reaches Out!

Staff at the Sandman Hotel Regina exemplified what Saskatchewan natives are known for: caring and kindness. After hearing the devastating news that a young couple’s home had burned to the ground, GM Steve Simpson came to their assistance.

Newlyweds Nicole Geddes and Devan Tomyk came to Sandman on the advice of their insurance company. With over 6 weeks worth of damages to repair, the family needed a place that could offer the comforts of home. The kitchenettes, high-speed wireless internet, and ideal location made a perfect fit.

In just three days, the management and staff of Sandman and Moxie’s Classic Grill came to their assistance and donated gifts to aid them through the overwhelmingly hectic time.

The gifts included new dinnerware, a coffee maker, clock, drinking glasses, gift cards donated by Moxie’s ($100), a television set, and a card signed by all the staff.

By the end of September, their home was restored, and the Tomyk family was able to move back in. We wish them all the best in their new beginning!

WINNERS!! Sandman Regina Wins Top Honours for Raising the Most Food for Regina Food Bank!

The Regina Food Bank kicked off this year’s annual fall food drive with a bit of healthy competition. Food banks in Victoria and Halifax instigated a three-way food fight, challenging each other to see who could gather the most non-perishable food items in a 48 hour period. The city with the most food, to be crowned the title ‘Most Caring City’ in Canada!

Showing their true Saskatchewan roots, General Manager Steve Simpson and the staff rose to the challenge, joining the Great Business Battle 2010; a drive spearheaded by local Regina businesses to help raise food and funds for the homeless.

Thanks to their efforts, Sandman Regina was able to raise nearly $500 in just under one week. Congratulations to all involved in this tremendous effort to take care of their community!

Read what the Special Events Coordinator from the Regina Food Bank had to say to the team:

“Hello all!

I wanted to personally thank all of you at Sandman Hotel who helped to make our 1st Annual Great Business Battle a HUGE success!

In total, with cash and food donations, Sandman Hotel collected a remarkable 470 lbs of food! This is an absolutely amazing total and your success was attributed to your dedication and generosity to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry! As an organization you should be very proud of your efforts!

Congratulations! You have won the Hotel category for the Business Battle Challenge!! A complete listing of all category winners will be posted in the Regina Leader-Post later on this week.

The Regina & District Food Bank serves approximately 10,000 people each month, with half of those being children. Because of your support, the Regina & District Food Bank is able to direct its money and food donations toward ensuring that people in need in our community are provided with adequate and nutritious food.
